The last few months we here at WPCanada have been getting hammered with spam. Lots of it. But thanks to Akismet not a single byte of crap has filtered through. Not one.

While I was perusing the spam queue earlier today I couldn't help but notice how ridiculous most of the comments were. Spelling errors and otherwise atrocious grammar aside, the comments had absolutely nothing to do with the posts they were submitted to. Spam bots smart yes?

Anyway, I thought what great fodder for a post. The following is a small sample of what I found along with a link to the post it was submitted to. And in case you're wondering about the grammar, no I'm not drunk. I copied the comments exactly as they appeared in all their glory.

Sample #1
"Interesting, I am definitely going to think some more about this and get back to you with a full comment once I get the time."
WordPress Smilies

Sample #2
"This can be a awesome website. I've been back over the moment during the last week and prefer to signal up in your rss feed making use of Google but can't work out the right way to do it highly well. Do you know of any form of guides?"
Optimizing Images With PunyPNG

Sample #3
"I was beeing trying to find the WWW for this info and just wanted to thank u for the post. Also, just off topic, how can i find a version of this theme? – Thank you"
Optimizing Images With PunyPNG

Sample #4
"I really really like this concept, and have been contemplating about this kind of factor for a while now (the way to better leverage personalized connections for on the web courting). The on-line courting room is damaged. It is really like impersonal shopping, and it can be a house which is grossly overdue for your tune up that integrates social connections in a very neat and efficient way. Leveraging Facebook to allow people to play matchmaker, helps make a ton of sense. If you have time."
Domain Parking WordPress Themes

Sample #5
"Thank you for blogging such a brilliant piece. All the data you include was very applicable and useful. You have been able to aid a lot of readers with all that you do."
Adding a Print Style Sheet

Sample #6 [my personal favourite]
"Did you hear about the stupid turkey? It was looking forward to Christmas!"

After helping out in the WordPress Support Forum for about a year now one thing has become painfully clear and that is the refusal of many people to use the damn search function. Many of the questions asked are the same ones over and over and have been answered as many times. What is so hard about it? I don't understand. Although I like the new look of the forum I think more importance (read emphasis) should have been given to the placement of the search form, particularly on the "View all Topics" page. As it is now it's rather obscure hiding up in the dark header. With that in mind I have created a mock-up of how I think the page should have been formatted. Below are two images,

before - the way it currently appears (click to enlarge)

after - how I think it should look (click to enlarge)

End of rant.
