Corny title I know but now that I have your attention I need to clarify something.
Over the course of the last few weeks I’ve had a number of emails from various people asking if they could fork the Genesis child themes offered here. The short answer is, yes of course!
Our child themes are released under the GNU General Public License v2.0. What that means is you can take any (or all) of our child themes and dissect them, rip them apart, analyze the itty-bitty pieces, add your own awesomeness, put them back together and offer them for download on your own site. That is the purpose of the GPL. Heck, that is the purpose of open-source software.
When you have an enthusiastic community using open-source software, such as the WordPress community in general and the Genesis community in particular, the software can only benefit by having many different people working to improve it. And that benefits us all.
That is the main reason why I recently decided to host our current themes on GitHub in addition to Google Code. GitHub makes it very easy to fork an existing project.
So if you want to take one of our projects and make it your own go for it. And you don’t need to ask either. Of course you’re more than welcome to shoot me an email if you want to show off the masterpiece you created.
