WPCanada is pleased to announce the Winfield child theme for the Genesis Framework has been updated to version 2.0.
This is the 2nd of our child themes to undergo a complete rewrite, the first being BlogNews. Like BlogNews, Winfield 2.0 is a little wider than 1.0, taking advantage of today’s wider computer screens. And like BlogNews, Winfield is now responsive.
The widgetized home page has been changed. It now displays the Genesis Responsive Slider plugin, a text widget area for a brief message and 3 slots at the bottom for use with the Genesis Featured Page widget. Version 2.0 also sports a new colour scheme and is cleaner looking I think.
A new feature of Winfield, actually a new feature to all of our child themes, is the addition of a widgetized 404 error page. The theme comes with a special widgetized 404.php template file which makes changing your 404 error page a snap. Instead of directly editing the 404.php template file you can add content to it via widgets. Add a recent posts widget, an archive widget, a text widget, a search form or any combination of them. You’re limited only by your imagination! Thanks to Genesis ninja David Decker for that.
The updates to both Winfield and BlogNews is in keeping with my wish to standardize our themes. What that means is there are several themes which will no longer be updated/maintained. These include:
- Conrad
- Conrad Full
- GoGreen
- Humphrey
- Manifest
- NewsBeat
- Simple
- Theodore
The reason for this, as I said, is my wish to standardize the themes. As such, with the major overhaul of both Winfield and BlogNews, the aforementioned themes are too similar. They are basically versions of either Winfield or BlogNews with different colour schemes. By focusing on just a few themes, as opposed to dealing with many themes, I’ll have the time to maintain and update them – be it bug fixes or the introduction of new features.
You will still be able to download the themes listed above, I won’t remove them. I just won’t be maintaining them from this point forward.
