When you say at the end of functions.php you are placing it before the closing ?> tag right?

Odd, because if I insert it (via the WP Dashboard Editor) at the end of the Functions.php file and click Update, I get a script error.

No it doesn't matter James. I know I don't have to tell you, but I'll mention it for the benefit of anyone else reading this, be sure to make a backup of that file prior to modifying it just in case. One little boo boo can bork the entire site.
